How To Brew - V60

What is a V60?

It’s not as fancy as it sounds, quite simply the V60 coffee dripper is shaped like a “V” with angles of 60 degrees. Made by Hario, the internal ridges of the dripper allow for greater airflow during the brewing process, allowing for optimum extraction and a great tasting cup of coffee.


The V60 is known for delivering incredibly clear flavours, allowing coffee lovers to enjoy even the subtlest of flavour notes within their coffee. For this reason, the V60 has become increasingly more popular as a brew method over recent years.

Below we have listed the equipment you’ll need to brew a V60, the dose and brew times, and a step by step guide on how to brew using this method.

What you’ll need

  • V60 Dripper funnel

  • Kettle

  • 20g of freshly ground coffee to 340ml of water

  • Filter paper

  • Measuring spoon or scales

  • Mug / Decanter


Dose & Brew Time

  • Coffee Dose
    20g

  • Brew Water
    340ml

  • Water Temp
    94 Degrees (boil your kettle and let it cool for a few minutes)

  • Brew Time
    3mins+

  • Grind Size
    Medium to Fine - similar to caster sugar


How to Brew

  1. Fold your Paper filter along the seam and then fold in half (should look like a cone).Put the filter into your V60, and place you V60 on your cup or decanter.

  2. Rinse the filter paper by pouring hot water through it and into the cup/decanter (this will pre-heat your cup/decanter - tip away any excess water)

  3. Place your ground coffee into the filter and shake to ensure the coffee grounds are flat

  4. Place your V60 and cup/decanter on to the scales and tare / zero

  5. Start the timer and pour 40-50g of hot water over the coffee ensuring it is all covered, this will start the blooming process (allowing all the gases to escape from the coffee)

  6. After 30 seconds pour up to 300g of water over the coffee. You want to ensure you’re pouring in concentric circles, trying to avoid pouring over the filter.

  7. When almost all of the water has filtered through, pour the remaining 40g of water over the coffee.

  8. Let it drip until finished

  9. Your brew should be done within 3-4 minutes

  10. If your brew takes longer than expected then try coarsening the grind. Equally if it is running to quickly then make the grinds finer.



    It’s all about personal taste, so experiment with different amounts of coffee, water and different grind sizes.
